    Concert with Greg Cohen

    Koncert Kirken, Copenhagen

    • Event Horizon

    Greg Cohen – double bass

    Randi Pontoppidan – Voice, electronic

The Duo Event Horizon of Randi Pontoppidan and Greg Cohen takes on the bold challenge of
making improvised music with voice, electronics and double bass.
The two veterans of improvisation began playing together 2015.
This experiment resulted in a dynamic duo recording (Space Geode) that will be
released later this year. Pontoppidan and Cohen draw from nature and color to direct their sonic endeavours. Each performance is unique and uncontrolled. A musical piñata, of sorts.
The love of sculpting sounds, melodies and pulses, makes this duo a visceral
    and buoyant soundscape.

    Space Geode

Pre-order is up for Space Geode!
The duo Event Horizon, has put on their crash helmets, and set their
course for a strato-stream in deep space.
Vocalist Randi Pontoppidan and bassist Greg Cohen are explorers.
The nature of Space Geode is simple. Better Living thru improvisation.
This recording was done without preparation or intention.
Only the simple motivation of believing in the others ability to dive
head first into deep space. This all occurred one November day.
In a room that was once the headquarters for East Berlin radio called The Funkhaus, Berlin.
Most of the recording was done in the dark. So space was all around us.
When there was an overdub, it was done without preconception.
Immediately after the improvisation, it was decided to add another track,
without hearing what we had just played.
So this musical statement is a rough, true and direct representation of what the nature of our duo is.
Laurie Anderson wrote about the album: Ethereal

    Release date for SPACE GEODE

    Chant Records, New York

    EVENT HORIZON

    Greg Cohen Double bass
    Randi Pontoppidan Vocal, live electronics

The Duo Event Horizon of Randi Pontoppidan and Greg Cohen takes on the bold challenge of making improvised music with voice and bass where own compositions and standards sometimes occur. The music is influenced by Jazz, folk, contemporary and free musik. The two veterans of improvisation began playing together in 2015. This experiment resulted in a dynamic duo recording Space Geode that will be released on Chant Records July 16. 2018. Pontoppidan and Cohen draw from nature and color to direct their sonic endeavours. Each performance is unique and uncontrolled. A musical piñata, of sorts. The love of sculpting sounds, melodies and pulses, makes this duo a visceral and buoyant soundscape.

Greg Cohen NY, Lives in Berlin, is a remarkable bass player and composer who consistently finds himself in the right place at the right time. The right place tends to be alongside the likes of John Zorn, Tom Waits, or Ornette Coleman who utilize his services repeatedly. But his career is long and consistently varied and he’ worked with everyone from Woody Allen to David Byrne, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Antony and the Johnsons, Elvis Costello, Laurie Anderson, Willie Nelson, as well as part of numerous improvisatory ensembles. He’ considered something of a musicians musician having appeared on such iconic albums as 1980′ Heart Attack and Vine and 1999′ Mule Variations for Tom Waits and 2001′ Life on a String for Laurie Anderson.

Randi Pontoppidan is a recognized and sought danish vocalist, improviser and composer. From free improvisation, jazz, performance art to contemporary classical music she is known for her extended and experimental vocal techniques, often mixed with the use of live electronic processing. Pontoppidan uses her voice exploring musical landscapes and bringing forth new sounds. Her voice becomes the instrument. She is known for her collaborations with artists such as Greg Cohen, Paul Hillier, Else Torp, Theatre of Voices, Sissel Vera Pettersen, Thomas Agergaard, Simon Toldam, Lotte Anker, Morten Søndergaard, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Stuart Lynch. Pontoppidan has appeared at festivals around the world with her own music and with the music of Stockhausen, Cage, Berio, Lang and Reich at venues including London´s Royal Albert Hall, Mexico´s Cervantino, Austalien Perth, Berlin´s Festspiele and Carnegie Hall in New York.

Alle dele vil have en plads denne aften, hvor vi vil søge nærværet for at finde lys og følgeskab i glæden, sorgen, underskuddet eller overskuddet.
